I Hate Mannequins

And now, a public service announcement brought to you by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.  If you really love illegal fireworks....and really hate mannequins....this is the video for you:

This low-budget, slightly paranoid video was produced to illustrate the many ways that fireworks can go wrong: A seemingly harmless sparkler sets your clothing on fire; an M-80 blows up your head. But when these dangers are repeatedly demonstrated on hapless mannequins (and the occasional hapless watermelon), the safety lesson becomes comedic — all that’s missing is the 1812 Overture:

Happy 4th of July!

  1. I noticed in the original video that during some of the explosions that the people were giggling like school girls and in one case you hear one of them yell Yeah.

  2. Anon: Yeah, not surprising though, considering how "low budget" it is. I've seen (and been in) public service videos from various military bases that were produced by public affairs offices (on shoe string budgets) that turned out better than that one. Hardly award winning stuff.

Then again, in the annals of comedic government-made video, I think this one will eventually rank right up there with the '50s civil defense, '80s 'Just Say No', and select '80s to present "the more you know" PSAs.
