Lackadaisy

I've never been the biggest fan of the "furry" genre, but I do make certain exceptions.  Tracy Butler's Lackadaisy is set in Prohibition-era St. Louis...call it the late-1920s...which, naturally, is populated by cats.  In this age of manga-inspired (and done on the cheap) everything, it's not often that you find a web-comic that is so well researched and illustrated.  Not just the characters themselves, but everything from the period clothing and settings, right down to the cobblestones on the streets of St. Louie.

Thus far the web-comic has been awarded or nominated for nine Web Cartoonist's Choice Awards (2007-08), two Ursa Major Awards (2007 and 2009), and an Eisner Award (2011).

So, with that said, when Tracy offered up a pre-order for a limited run of hard-bound copies of Lackadaisy Vol. 1 back at the beginning of December....yeah, I jumped at it.  Call it a Christmas present to myself.  I got in contact with Tracy about getting the book signed, but little did I know (she nor the publisher made mention of it publicly) that all of the initial pre-order copies were signed...call it a Christmas surprise.  She even offered to personalize mine. :)

Shego - Femlin (Extra)

A little extra-short story from The Supreme One (aka the "Kigo Loving Lesbian").  She wrote it especially for the Femlin piece I recently did:

A rather stately woman approached the bar, her hind end catching the bartender's eye.
"Hello, ma'am, is there something I can get you" he said, keenly interested in the movements of her curvaceous body.
She looked up at him, and realized there wasn't a menu "I don't usually come to places like this, but do you have any specials today"
The bartender was rather taken aback by her lacking of knowledge on bars and bar etiquette "We don't have specials here ma'am"
To his surprise, she seemed to expect this answer. "So I see...... surprise me, then!"
With a toothy smile, he responded "I'll see what I can pull together..." he dismissed himself and got to work making her drink.

A few moments later he returned. "One vodka Sheegtini... shaken, not stirred"
During her wait she had developed a distinct craving for olive, so without even looking, she began to modify her order "May you please add some," then the drink caught her eye ,"oliv.... OH MY GOD!"
The small, green woman in that glass looked at the stately lady, and in her most proper English responded, "I already came with some, my mistress" to which she held up the toothpick with one olive on it.

Shego - Femlin

Back in June the world lost one of it's greatest expressionist artists, LeRoy Neiman, best know for his depiction of sporting events such as (American) football and the Kentucky Derby.  Neiman is widely recognized for his "femlin" characters in Playboy magazine's "Party Jokes" page since 1955.  For all intents and purposes, every single piece you've ever seen of a girl in a martini glass...you can thank Neiman for that.

Naturally, Neiman's femlins were all done in black and white, but....yeah...

Dee Pee

Somehow I get the impression that Betty is enjoying herself, but filled with doubt and self-loathing.  Cheating on her husband, a little incest, and her first double-down...  Yeah, just going straight for the self-hating personality trifecta, all in one sitting.

Club Banana - Work Files

A couple of work files from the G-man's most recent peice, the Club Banana Crossover.  For posting purposes, I did modify Daphne's skin tone a bit from the original.  It looks good against a yellow background, but as a stand-alone it's a little too....ummm...olive-colored.

Club Banana Crossover

A little bit of a departure from the all-KP cast the G-man is known for....Kim and Monique meet Scooby-Doo's Daphne for a little "fitting" at Club Banana.  Velma, sexually ambiguous?  Nah...I'd say her intentions (albeit voyeuristic) are pretty loud and clears here.

This is a test of sorts for a comic project Gagala is working on called the "Last Mission".  It will be a comic with the usual Kim Possible gang and lotsa mini-crossovers from the likes of Pokémon, Phineas & Ferb, Galaxy High, He-Man, Aladdin, and many more.  Don't look for it any time soon however...Gagala is going to complete the Kiki Possible saga before starting any new ventures.

Also on the Gagala news-front...he's finally moving into a new house this coming weekend.

Rhythmic Gymnastics

It's no secret that this past Summer Olympics had the highest viewer rating in history of the games....but there's always room for improvement.  Rio de Janeiro being a pretty skin-friendly town, I think Kim would be a shoe-in for 2016.

Ember - Rock Goddess

Ember McLain, hard rocking ghost girl who feeds off the idol worship of teenagers.  She's always reminded me of Donita Sparks, guitarist and lead vocals for the all-female metal / punk / grunge band L7 back in the '80s and '90s....minus the blue, flaming hair of course.

Random Acts of Photography

Firstly, I'd like to appologize for my lack of posts the past ten days or so.  What with attending a funeral in rural (and by rural I mean bumfuck Egypt) Kentucky this past week, the 23 hour drive to and from said rural-ness, coming back with a nasty case of influenza, and then going back to work (to spread said influenza)....yeah, I haven't had very much will nor want to go forth upon the infoweb.

A little impulse buy from a Wal-Mart in Bumfuck Kentucky.  In hindsight, I find it a little disturbing to be drinking coffee out of the head of the Dark Lord of the Sith.

...and yes, he's chocolate colored.

I won't go into specifics as to when, from whom, or how I got this challenge coin except to say that it was given to me by an agent of some note (i.e. famous and/or infamous).  After showing this to a couple of people all of them remarked as to how "cool" it was for the agent to give it to me...and then they began spreading rumors that I was a narc.  Yeah, that's me alright...connoisseur of toon porn, all-around nice guy, and part-time confidential informant.  Yuh got me.

Zero G and I Feel Fine

Ask again and again...and (eventually) ye shall receive.  Such is the case when some unknown individual began requesting this piece from Gagala, probably some years ago, of "Warmonga in Trouble".  I have no idea who the repeat-requester is, but given the amount of time it took to get it done I'm sure this will exceed their expectations.

Loner meets Hose Beast

A little surprise visit in the shower for Gwen courtesy of Izzy, Total Drama's resident psycho hose beast.  Have I mentioned that I hate doing backgrounds, especially from scratch?  Yeah, fuck you, background.

Killing a little time on my weekend, catching up on my coloring...which (at least in my mind's eye) I never seem to have time for.  Back to work tomorrow...just in time for a late-season hurricane to descend upon Florida and the Bahamas.  Joy.

Blondie and Tootsie

Did you know that before Blondie Boopadoop married Dagwood Bumstead in 1933, she was a  flapper who liked to hang out in dance halls?  Blondie's maiden name was derived from the song "I Wanna Be Loved by You" by Helen Kane.  A Max Fleischer caricature of Kane, with her famous "boop-boop-a-doop" tag line, eventually became one of the first cartoon sex symbols...one Betty Boop.

Going Postal

I was supposed to have this Chris Sanders print on Saturday, but apparently my usual postal carrier was taking a couple of days off from work...leaving my latest acquisition in the hands of a second-string temp.  The temp left notice that it was at the post office to be picked up on Friday, but put the notice in the wrong mail box...a little old lady's mail box two blocks away.  She however, was kind enough to bring it to me while she was walking her dog the next morning.  I thanked her for going out of her way to bring it to me, but by that time it was too late to get to post office before their noon closing on Saturday. At this point I'm not overly concerned about getting the print...at least I know where it is and not lost somewhere out there in postal limbo, bound for the dead letter office or the North Pole c/o Santa Claus.

Fast forward to Monday, I take off early from work to pick up the package, but when I get there the postal clerk at the desk tells me that the genius of a temp has put the package on his truck a second time...apparently doing so after a notice for pick-up has been left is a serious no-no in the postal biz.  The postal clerk tells the Postmaster...and she's pissed!  I'm still taking it all in stride...they're extremely apologetic and I keep telling them it's no big deal.  Well, long story made short, apparently it IS a "big deal" in the postal profession....a "step into my office, because you're fuckin' fired!" kind of deal.

Ever wonder why so many letter carriers ended up "going postal" back in the day?  Well, now you know.

I'm going to have it professionally framed some time next week, but for the interim...yeah...ignore the over-sized, shitty, plastic Wal-Mart frame.  It's the only thing I could find on short notice that came close to fitting it.

Drink the Cool-Aid

Yeah, I drank from Chris Sanders' cool-aid pitcher a long time ago...long before How to Train Your Dragon and even long before Lilo & Stitch.  A couple of years ago Chris started drawing a Halloween themed piece called "Party Witches" that I kinda glommed onto.  The final version came out around Halloween of 2010 and ran as a 12x21 limited / signed print that was only available at major comic cons...I think they sold for around $100.  In come the con trolls to gobble them up, put'em on eBay, and then jack the prices to $175 and up...which I sure as hell wasn't willing to shell out.

Oh, what a difference a coupla Halloweens make.  Chris only offered up 20 of them on his website yesterday...and at the mind-bogglingly low price of $20.  Sorry, I don't wanna sound like I'm gloating or anything (pfft, yes I do!), but I got the next to the last one.

I'll have it in my grubby little mitts by the end of the week.

Gonna Be A Long Flight

It's been quite a few years since Gagala did any animation work...since 2009 in fact.  Even with that long of a hiatus....he doesn't disappoint.

This would be Yoshiko Kyoko, translator for toy-magnate Nakasumi, from the "So the Drama" movie and the episode "Crush"...and not to be confused with Ron's would-be girlfriend, Yori.  In my mind's eye Kim asks her something to the effect of, "It's an eleven hour flight to L.A...wanna see MY toy collection?"

Linda Flynn-Fletcher

Yet, another under-appreciated and under-drawn MILFs within toon-dom.  Yes, it's Linda Flynn-Fletcher from Phineas and Ferb....but without that god-awful pink complexion.  Honestly, as she's portrayed (colored) in the cartoon, it looks like her mother ingested way too much Thalidomide while she was in the womb.

It would seem that I have completely overlooked a rather significant event in the history of this blog.  This oversight wasn't because of neglect, apathy, or procrastination...far from it in fact.  Nope, just being a good old fashioned slave to the grind.

A little gift piece by Gagala....and no, it wasn't a gift for me.  My only experience with a hobbie horse was somewhat less pleasant than discovering a naked Kimmie strapped to one...I busted out my two front teeth when I was five thanks to one of those demonic, plastic, spring ones.  Discovering naked women in front of my fire place on the other hand....well, that's another story.

Ahh...memories.

Bound and Ball-Gagged - Part 2

I dunno, maybe it's a Freudian thing.  Every time I see someone in a ball-gag I automatically think of Pulp Fiction....and then use it as an excuse to quote Marcellus Washington from "the gimp" scene:

"What now? Let me tell you what now. I'm gonna call a coupla hard, pipe-hittin' niggas who'll go to work on the homes here with a pair of pliers and a blow torch. You hear me talkin', hillbilly boy? I ain't through with you by a damn sight! I'm gonna get medieval on your ass!"

We'll call this a continuation of the one with Kimmie in a similar situation from earlier this year.

Special Kind of Genius

I was just about finished with a coloring piece for a friend on deviantART, but I got a little sidetracked by a picture that greeted me when I logged onto the site.

Remember how you felt the day you received your first debit / credit card?  The first inkling of a notion that you were finally on your way to some financial independence.  Finally, you can afford a few extras in your life, whatever they may be.  In that moment of joy and excitement, you want to show EVERYONE your new found prosperity and....

Yeah, the rest of us don't generally post a picture of our new card online for all the world to see.  That takes a special kind of genius.

I did however, have the common courtesy to drop them a note, pointing out the potential failure in their...ummm...moment of triumph.  But not before popping a screenshot...and blurring out all of the particulars to spare the individual any further embarrassment and/or financial burden.  The original photo has since been removed from the site.
