Furries

Many years from now, when you're old and grey, will you be able to look your children in the eye and honestly tell them that you use to socialize with other human beings by way of donning an animal costume and adopting an alternate persona?  "Son, have I ever told you how I met your mother?"  Yep, let the psychiatric counseling sessions begin!

  1. The single most terrifying aspect of this pic? Sharing an enclosed room with that many over-insulated fortysomethings sans AC. Just contemplating such funk makes me start taking short, shallow breaths.

    1. I have the (huge) full-size version of this pic. The best part (or worst, depending upon your point of view) is the guy standing right in the center of all them without a costume...the expression on his face (or lack thereof) screams 'shooting rampage'.

    2. Factor in the time spent herding all these goofballs into frame, and it's just as well suitcase nukes take a bit of assembly & concealment aforethought. Now I'm wondering how feasible sneaking the parts in as costume components would be.

    3. Sneak? It's (more than likely) an empty convention hall floor...it's not like they're doing pat-downs and full-body cavity searches.

...unless you're into that kinda thing. :P

    4. Strip-searches conducted by goddamn Pluto. Urrrrgh. Excuse me whilst I find a rusty spoon & dig that image outta my brain old-school (i.e. Egyptian mummification) style.

That said (glances at convo below), I gotta tip the hat to Mascot Guy for finding a way to blend job with hobby.

    5. Oh no...no, no, no...all strip searches will be conducted by the Sheriff of Nottingham: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3520/3319844062_53646eb5e5.jpg

  2. I've only ever known one furry in real life and he was a pretty chill and normal dude, the total opposite of the melodramatic type you find in every corner of the internet.

He also had a job and lived on his own.

    1. Oh, I didn't say that the majority of them aren't normal and (mostly) socially conforming individuals. I dunno. Having been a fan boy for so long, seeing someone in a Storm Trooper or Trekkie get-up seems absolutely normal to me. Yet, someone in a full-body OC fur suit seems to take the term "social misfit" to a whole new level.

I know two of them locally. One is the full-time mascot of a ummmm "major sports team", part-time OC furry, and otherwise an all-around normal dude....except for the whole triple-persona thing. The other however...yeah...thirty-some melodrama king, two-time college drop-out, lives with mommy and daddy (and refers to them as such), and is a part-time *nazi salute* barista.
