Karma...YOU BITCH!

As of today I have decided not to do any more adult cartoon coloring / inking work.  What I mean by 'adult' are those drawings and sketches that depict characters in graphic sexual detail.  That's a fairly generalized way of phrasing it so let's just say, for instance, anything you would normally see in any given pornographic film...I won't be doing them anymore.  This isn't to say that I won't be doing any more scantly clad or even nude / partially nude work, far from it in fact....just no more "insert object A into slot B" type stuff.

I did not come to this decision lightly nor were there any outside influences that swayed me towards this decision.  No family or friends berating me, no one making any surprise discoveries on the internet, no paparazzi sticking cameras in my face, nor any of that overly dramatic bullshit.  Doing that sort of work has a way of, as I've mentioned before, making feel like some sort of reclusive lecherous shut-in.  It's just plain bad karma as far as I'm concerned.  I don't believe in God nor the concept of the human soul, but I do believe that all deeds actively shape my present and future experiences and (more importantly) I have free will to choose good or evil...and revel in or suffer the consequences accordingly.

...and no, I'm not a Buddhist either.

This isn't a question of equating hentai-type works to pornography (or "smut" if you prefer) nor any sort of morality issue.  This is a question of drawing a line in the sand.  At what point does the innocence stop and the gratuitous begin?  Some will say that you can't gain the same level of recognition and admiration of ones peers nor build a viable portfolio without dabbling into the darker side.  Well, there's the rub...I didn't start drawing nearly three decades ago (and coloring fairly recently) for anyone's recognition or admiration, nor making any money from it.  I do it becuase I enjoy it, and doing what I consider to be the "dirty stuff" makes me enjoy it a little less.

Ain't karma a bitch?

I would like to apologize to a few artist out there who were expecting me to complete a few of their works.  You know who you are.  If you have something that is a little more "toned down" that you would like me to do, don't hesitate to ask.

  1. I respect your decision. It's your prerrogative to choose what type of drawings you feel comfortable with. But you paint the penetration genre hentai just as most people portray all porn in general, as the so called "evil" side of karma. I'm not trying to dictate your beliefs, but sex is a wonderful thing when done between two people in love. I don't really picture it as the evil side of anything in life, especially karma. It feels way too good to be bad, plus it's how we make wonderful little babies. Even the Bible endorses it in Heb 13:4 (between married couples anyway), so it can't be an evil thing, even in karma's eyes.

Perhaps your decision is based more upon legitimacy than on bad karma, like in the artist Levelord's case. He detested creating "porn" art because he likened it to smut. He was seeking approval from fellow established artists, and you can't really show off a hentai based drawing in a portfolio along with the tamer drawings and get the same response from most people. They too instantly deem most any hentai as "smut" when they see it because of society's misguided moral influence. You are a very talented artist and an amazing colorist. I would hate to see you pass on rendering any art because of the fear of "bad" karma, as it were. But please consider that people have enjoyed your dirty renders as much as your more tame ones from what I've gathered around the web. And that can't be a bad thing when someone pleases someone else with their talent and abilities.

  2. Good, that's very honest from you. It's good whatever you draw as long as you are comfortable with it. Maybe in some months or years you'll miss drawing adult stuff and you'll feel like doing it again and that will be fine, as long as you are true to yourself. A new Phillipthe2 age begins :p

  3. I can't see the sense in drawing or coloring what you don't care for--that's just wasted time, especially when it's your own time--so this is a good decision. I'm happy for you.

Since I don't really care for depictions of sex, I'm thinking there will be more from you I can look forward to. Looks like a win both ways.

  4. hey that's great, thank you for spending some time, coloring some of my stuff... Knowing your self and doing what you believe IS not always easy... but may~haps in the future we could collaborate again, be sure to keep in touch on my websites (you know where to find me lol) i could always use an extra opinion from time to time... side note don't Buddhist believe there is no good and evil? or is that Taoist?

  5. It will be a little sad to see you stop some of your art work but at the same time I'm glad. I'm interested to see what your going to drawl next still even if its just someone doing everyday stuff like in the show. I'm also curious if you will do any request later (not the sexual kind) and if money how much? (and I'm not sure how this works so message me at my ff.net if possible?)
