Call Me Slumpie

I've been in a real creative slump as of late and can't seem to complete (what I normally consider to be) the simplest of works.  I open something, draw maybe two or three lines, color some small and insignificant item, and then....lose all interest in what I'm doing.  It's not that I'm uninspired...I do have some rather interesting things in the works...I just seem to lack the motivation to 'git-r-done'.  Fuck!  I hate that expression!

I dunno, maybe it's just the stresses of everyday life catching up to me....money, work, love life (or lack there of as of late), feelings of under-appreciation, etc, etc.  Yeah, I know what you're saying right about now, "Hey Phil...shuddup, quit whining, stop being such a whoosie, and draw us something to drool over!"  Maybe tomorrow will cheer me up a bit....it's payday after all.

In the mean time I'll leave you something to occupy your time until I can pull my head out my ass:

  1. Hmmmm. I don't think this is the first time you've mentioned this slump, but since I don't belong to Deviant Art any longer, I can't verify it.

I'd say that it's all well and good to tell yourself to shut up and do something, because we all have moments like that... But when it starts to become a pattern, especially with something you usually enjoy, you need to delve deeper.

I'd say you may want to consider counseling and/or medication. I ALWAYS recommend the former over the latter because a drug may solve the mood issues, but it won't do anything about the underlying behaviors, and you may just need to talk your issues out with someone who can give you a new set of tools to deal with what is causing your difficulties.

On a more positive note, The video gave me a distinct chuckle :D

  3. i have had a slump or lackluster for drawing anything, but i usually get myself out of this pit by exposing myself to some thing i normally wouldn't watch or play a game i normally wouldn't play, or just look for something NEW that sparks my interest and consider how and what can i learn from this and or grow from it, also i look at my past art and accomplishments and consider where i was and where i am now "humbling" to see my progress as an artist.

    hope this helps ya
