Kim x Buffy

To dispel any rumors to the contrary, I was never a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer...the movie nor the series.  Likewise, you can probably thank Buffy (what with all the bloodsucker love triangles) for the present-day shiny / glittery vampire love triangles.  Thanks Buffy, thanks a lot.  Call me old school if you like, but I still prefer my Nosferatu Bela Lugosi style.

On the other hand, cheerleader love triangles = win!

  1. I'm inclined to think Anne Rice played at least as big a part in wussifying the undead, and at least MOST of TV-Buffy's vamps were soulless demon-possessed hellraisers...though I do agree that as of the final seasons you almost could've chopped that first letter off Buff's "Slayer" title.

As for the film...Kristy Swanson and Pee-Wee Herman (he plays a skeezy hench-vamp) just barely made it survivable for my B-flick-addict self. Gimme Christopher Lee or Max Schreck any day.

Before I forget the pic...honestly, I'm most impressed by the detail lavished upon Buffy's early-90s duds & 'do. I suppose that's one way to shine your pointy wooden (or rubber...niche shops these days, right?) object.

  4. Anon: Urgh...Anne Rice. Figures that one of my GF's all-time favorite movies is that cinematic abortion known as "Queen on the Damned". Hell, it's so bad that even Rice herself continually dismisses it saying that "...it hurts me to see my work (book) mutilated the way it (the movie) did." As woosi-fied as it may be, I still rather enjoy "Interview with the Vampire"...which (wouldn't it just figure) my GF absolutely hates.

  5. LH: Yeah, I could have done without Ryan Reynolds hamming it up in Blade: Trinity. Other than that, the Blade trilogy was just plain awesomeness. Maybe after Snipes gets out of legal / financial trouble with the feds he'll do a fourth one....unfortunately, he isn't due to get out of prison until mid-2013.

  7. Wait, Snipes is doing time? That actually explains all too much regarding the onset of sparklepirism. As for "Queen," that actually hits an additional nerve for yours truly: overpowered undead. Isn't your "average" vampire nasty enough already without cheap-ass tricks like pyrokinesis or teleportation?

  8. Anon: Yep, he was convicted of income tax fraud and/or failure to pay income tax from back in '96-97...to the tune of $11.3M. It didn't really make big news nationally/internationally, but since he was tried just up the road from here in Ocala, FL we'd get nightly reports on the local news. He was sentence in '08, but due to (failed) appeals didn't start serving his sentence until '10. By that time ('08-10) we pretty much stopped hearing anything about it (except for page-10 blurbs in the local paper) because everything was eclipsed by all that Casey Anthony bullshit down in Orlando.
